Ten Commandments of Bed play
Suprised aren’t you? Yes there are certain benefits bound in the act of sex. The hormones involved before and after sex rejuvenates life. Unknowingly we might have enjoyed its outcomes. Here the discussion with the doctor put forths sex as a panacea to physical and mental disorders, to some extend. As you know too much of anything is good for nothing. Though it is mentioned as ten commandments, do take it as stepping stones to a successful life.
1: Reduces stress
Most of the time we are stressed out with work or family problems. Don’t let it affect your performance in the bedroom. Not only will having sex improve your mood, but a study has also proven that folks, who indulge in regular bedroom activities can handle stress better and are happier people. The journal Biological Psychology published a paper from Scottish scientists who found that people partaking in regular sex had reduced stress and lower blood pressure when compared to people who abstained. The participants kept logs of their sexual activities and were then subjected to stress in the form of public speaking or doing mental arithmetic whilst blood pressure was noted. Those indulging in regular sex generally showed lower blood pressure readings. Lower diastolic readings have also been seen in people who have regular sex and it appears that women’s blood pressure can be lowered by hugs from a loved one.
2: Increases immunity
Regular lovemaking increases the level of the immune-boosting antibody immunoglobulin A (IgA), which in turn makes your body stronger against illnesses like the common cold and fever. People who have sex have higher levels of what defends your body against germs, viruses, and other intruders.“Sexually active people take fewer sick days,” says Yvonne K. Fulbright, PhD a sexual health expert. Researchers at Wilkes University in Pennsylvania found that college students who had sex once or twice a week had higher levels of the a certain antibody compared to students who had sex less often. You should still do all the other things that make your immune system happy, such as:
- Eat right.
- Stay active.
- Get enough sleep.
- Keep up with your vaccinations.
- Use a condom if you don’t know both of your STD statuses.
3: Sex uses calories
Here the doctor uses the term sexercise which imparts the meaning sex as an exercise .You spend more time in workouts or other exercises to burn your calories.Instead , sex at a time can burn 80-100 kilocalories. Perhaps this factor isn’t so surprising. Consider this against 30 minutes on an exercise bike pedaling quite hard and covering about 20km and only burning about 250 to 350 calories. Patti Britton, PhD, is a Los Angeles sexologist and president of the American Association of Sexuality Educators and Therapists and says that as well as being good physically and psychologically, “sex is a great mode of exercise”.
4: Healthy hearts like sex
Scientists in England published findings in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, indicating that the amount of activity undertaken whilst having sex did not increase the risk of stroke if you are an older person. The researchers also identified that having sex two or more times a week halved the risk of heart attack when compared to those who had sex less than monthly. But those with chronic heart diseases are recommended to follow sex as per a physicians advise.
5: Confidence and self respect increase with sex
University of Texas researchers published findings in the Archives of Sexual Behavior showing that self esteem was one of 237 motivations why men and women have sex. Gina Ogden, PhD, is a sex therapist and marriage and family therapist in Cambridge, Mass. She believes that those who have self esteem have sex to feel better. She says, “One of the reasons people say they have sex is to feel good about themselves”. She goes on, “Great sex begins with self-esteem, and it raises it. If the sex is loving, connected, and what you want, it raises it”.The doctor adds that sex increases your inter personal relationships.
6: Confidence and self respect increase with sex
University of Texas researchers published findings in the Archives of Sexual Behavior showing that self esteem was one of 237 motivations why men and women have sex. Gina Ogden, PhD, is a sex therapist and marriage and family therapist in Cambridge, Mass. and she agrees with the findings. She believes that those who have self esteem have sex to feel better. She says, “One of the reasons people say they have sex is to feel good about themselves”. She goes on, “Great sex begins with self-esteem, and it raises it. If the sex is loving, connected, and what you want, it raises it”.
7: Sex has pain killing qualities
Oxytocin levels increase during sex and it has been found that endorphins increase too and hence pain declines. The Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine published a study showing that the participants could withstand more pain when exposed to oxytocin vapor. The study found that the volunteers could withstand twice the amount of pain.
8: Prostate cancer risk can be reduced by frequent sex
The British Journal of Urology International recently published a report from Australian researchers saying that frequent ejaculations, especially if the man is in his twenties could reduce the risk of prostate cancer when the man is older. Investigating men with prostate cancer, the researchers noted that when the men were older than their twenties the number of ejaculations has no association to prostate cancer risk. However those with the highest number of ejaculations in their twenties, more than 5 a week, had a 33% reduced risk of developing prostate cancer later in life. Separate research found that 21 ejaculations a month reduced the risk, when compared to men who only ejaculated between 4 and 7 times a month. This study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
9: Sex can tone up muscles
Women have pelvic floor muscles which can be strengthened by doing exercises known as kegels. Having stronger muscles in this region cuts the risk of incontinence in the future. This exercise consists of the woman tensing the muscles on the pelvic floor, the feeling is the same as trying to halt the flow of urine, after a few seconds release and relax. This exercise is known to give the woman’s partner added enjoyment during the sexual act.
10: Sex aids sleep
Oxytocin is an impressive hormone and it also encourages sleep and is released in abundance after an orgasm. We all know how important getting enough sleep is. It can reduce stress, keep the blood pressure at a normal level and allow the body time to regenerate cells. It may also give a scientific explanation for all of those men who are known to go to sleep far too quickly after lovemaking.
